Veritas University shut down Academic Activities over Insecurity
Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, has suspended academic activities following the worsening security situation in Abuja and its surrounding areas.
The abrupt closure of the Roman Catholic-owned university, located in Bwari Area Council, followed security reports indicating that terrorists could attack and abduct students of the institution.
The development is coming after a foiled attack reportedly targeted at the Nigerian Law School, which is situated a few kilometres away from the university.

New Academic Session Put on Hold
The new academic session earlier scheduled to commence in September has now been placed on hold due to the security threat to the institution.
In addition, the examination for 100-level students, which was scheduled to begin this week, has been suspended indefinitely.
The university said the examination would be conducted “at a date to be announced.”
University Reacts
Although Veritas University stated that academic activities had already been concluded before the closure, reports gathered by Vanguard indicate that the decision is directly linked to security alerts received by the school and security agencies.
Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Evelyn Obekpa, said:
“The Management of Veritas University wishes to notify the general public that the University has successfully completed the 2021/2026 academic session.
However, due to the current security tension and the directives of the Minister of the FCT for the closure of schools in Abuja, examinations for our 100-level students shall be conducted at a date to be announced later.”
Admission for 2026/2027 Still Ongoing
The university also informed members of the public that candidates seeking admission into Veritas University for the 2026/2027 academic session are encouraged to visit the university campus or the official website to obtain the admission form.
