2026 WAEC: Borno State Gov. Offsets Fees Owed by Students to Enable them Access Their Results
Maiduguri, Borno State – Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has approved the release of N329,805,800 to settle fees owed to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for students in public secondary schools who sat for the 2026 WAEC exams.
The payment ensures that 21,827 students can now access their examination results without any financial hindrance. The amount covers 75% of the 2026 WAEC fees for students and also clears outstanding fees from 2018.
The ceremonial presentation of the cheque was held at the Borno State Ministry of Education, Musa Usman Secretariat, and was received by Mr Zakariyau Abdullahi, WAEC Zonal Coordinator in Maiduguri.
Education Commissioner, Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, confirmed that with the payment now reflected in WAEC’s account, students are free to check their results online.
Plans for 2027
To further ease access for students, the state government has requested WAEC to extend the 2027 WASSCE exam centers to eight additional Local Government Areas (Damboa, Gwoza, Ngala, Dikwa, Mafa, Monguno, Gubio, and Mobbar), reducing the need for students to relocate to boarding schools in Maiduguri.
Over the past three years, Governor Zulum has released a total of N1.568 billion to cover WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB examinations for public school students in Borno State.
