WAEC Set To Release 2022 WASSCE Results Of 1.6m Candidates
LAGOS – The West African Examination Council (WAEC), will on Monday, release the results of the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
This is contained in a statement made available to Daily Independent by Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head, Public Affairs at the WAEC Nigeria National Office, Yaba, Lagos.
True to the resolve of the regional examination body to release results of the examination, now reversed to its traditional May/June schedule, the result is coming barely 45 days after the completion of the last subject.
The examination was held in The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
A total of 1,607,985 candidates from 20,221 schools registered for the 2022 examination and about 30,000 teachers participated in the examination as supervisors.
Review Of 2016 To 2021 Performances
The 2021 examination was written by a total of One Million, Five Hundred and Seventy-Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Nine (1,573,849) candidates from Nineteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Twenty Five (19,425) recognised secondary schools in the country while 1,560,261 million candidates wrote the exam.
The results show that 81.7 per cent of the candidates made credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics in the 2021 WASSCE.
The outcome of the examination in 2020 was 65.24 per cent.
A total of 1,549,740 candidates registered for the examination from 19,129 recognised secondary schools in Nigeria out of which 1,538,445 candidates sat the examination.
Also, a total of 4,280 candidates with varying degrees of special needs were registered for the examination out of which 230 were visually challenged, 745 had impaired hearing; 2,852 had low vision; 38 were spastic cum mentally challenged, and 58 were physically challenged.
In 2019, the examination recorded a 64.18 per cent pass rate by candidates who obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English and Mathematics.
The 2018 examination had a total of 1,578,846 registered candidates from 17,886 recognised secondary schools in Nigeria, while 1,572,396 candidates sat the examination.
The results showed that 786,016 candidates, representing 49.98%, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
In 2017, candidates that obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics were 59.22%.
In 2016, the total percentage of candidates that had five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics was 97%.
