BREAKING: ASUU NEC to hold Meeting Overnight
The meeting of the National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities will hold overnight in Abuja, The PUNCH has reliably learnt.
The meeting, which is a meeting of the leadership of the union, was convened to allow the leadership of the union to take the final decision on the protracted strike.
Speaking with our correspondent in Abuja, a top source said, “We will have a meeting today, and it will last overnight so that we will be given enough time to deliberate and make a conclusion.”
When asked if the union would call off the strike, the source declined to comment.
The PUNCH reports that ASUU had on Monday, February 14, 2026, declared a strike at the University of Lagos. The union had accused the Federal Government of failing to honour some of the agreements reached.
ASUU had demanded the renegotiation of the ASUU-FG 2009 agreement, release of revitalisation fund for universities, release of earned academic allowances, among others.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, dragged the striking lecturers to court over what he tagged as “irreconcilable differences.”
The national industrial court, however, ordered the lecturers back to work.
The ruling was appealed at the appellate court in Abuja, but was, however, not granted a hearing as the judge ordered ASUU to first obey the ruling of the lower court.
Branches of ASUU had on Wednesday held congresses to decide the next decision.
