COEASU Suspends Strike

Dear Congress Members,

SUSPENSION OF NATIONAL STRIKE

Congress members may recall that our Chapter joined the resumption of the 2018 suspended national strike on 14 June 2026 in line with the directive of the National body, in order to press home the demands of the Union.

The national strike action was informed by the failure of the Federal and State Governments to address the lingering issues between Government and our Union. This decision was communicated through a communiqué issued at the COEASU National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on 10 June 2026 at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, Delta State.

By this notice, Congress is hereby informed that the NEC met again on 10 July 2026 at Ukeje Hall, NCCE Building, Abuja, where members deliberated extensively and reviewed the achievements recorded since the declaration of the strike.

Following the review, it was observed that Government has shown understanding and commitment to about 95% of the Union’s demands. Consequently, the NEC unanimously resolved to suspend the ongoing strike for a period of sixty (60) days.

Accordingly, Congress members are hereby directed to resume duty with effect from 11 August 2026.

The Congress Executive Committee (CEC) appreciates all members for their support, cooperation and understanding throughout the period of the strike.

Furthermore, members are invited to an Emergency Congress Meeting scheduled as follows:
