The Oyo State Government has approved the reinstatement of 129 public primary school teachers who were unlawfully dismissed by the previous administration.

The development was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Nureni Adeniran, in a statement issued by his media aide, Olamide Adeniji, on Tuesday in Ibadan.

According to Adeniran, the decision followed the approval of the Oyo State Executive Council, which ratified the reinstatement of 129 officers who were wrongly dismissed between 2011 and 2019.

He explained that the reinstatement is conditional. The affected teachers are required to agree not to demand salary arrears for the period they were out of service, as that period has been officially converted to leave of absence by the state government.

Adeniran commended Seyi Makinde for what he described as his compassion and selfless leadership in administering the state.

He noted that the reinstatement of the 129 teachers represents a significant and symbolic achievement for the education sector in Oyo State.

“This is a plus for the education sector. Apart from being an addition to the dwindling number of teachers in the public primary school system, thousands of family dependants who have suffered untold economic hardship as a result of the dismissal of their breadwinners will now have a new lease of life,” he said.

The SUBEB chairman therefore urged teachers across the state to reciprocate the governor’s gesture by showing renewed commitment to their duties and redoubling their dedication to work.
