Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU), formerly known as University of Ife, is a federal government  owned and operated Nigerian university. The university is in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, led by late chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, and was renamed Obafemi Awolowo University on 12 May 1987 in honour of Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria.

The university has 13 faculties  and two colleges  the Postgraduate College and the College of Health Sciences — administered in more than 60 departments.

How many years does it takes to study computer science in OAU?

The number of years it will take you to study Computer science in OAU depends on your Mode of Entry or how you gained admission.

If you gained admission through Direct Entry, you will study Conputer science in OAU for (3) years.

And if you gained admission through JAMB, you will study Computer science in OAU for (4) years.

Jamb and  Olevel requirements for Computer science in OAU

Jamb requirements:

In UTME, please note that English language is compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB subject combination needed to study computer science in OAU include;

Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry

O’level requirements:

Five(5) SSCE credits to include;

Major: English language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry

Minor: Biology,Agric science, Geography, Economics

Note: Major subject are the compulsory ones while minor are the optional I.e you can use any of the minor to complete the requirements. Although some school has special (waiver) remarks regarding the subject to choose in the optional. So in this sense we advise you to pick Biology as the 5th subject in order to stand a high chance of gaining admission among others.

Direct Entry(DE) requirements :

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Computer Science, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

(i) ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(ii) ND/HND in Computer Science Upper/Lower credit respectively

Cut off mark for Computer science in OAU

The cut off mark for Computer science in OAU is 200. While admission into most of the major departments such as Law, Pharmacy, Medicine,etc. require a higher score in UTME.

Meanwhile OAU general cut off mark is pegged at 180, some departments in Obafemi Awolowo University,Ife, May accept 180 in JAMB.
