Kwara Government Renames College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS)
The Kwara State Government has renamed the state-owned College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS) in Ilorin as the College of Arabic, Islamic, Legal, and Management Studies (CAILMS).
The college’s Deputy Registrar (Information), AbdulLateef Yahaya, said this on Wednesday in Ilorin, attributing the change to the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr Afeez Alabi.
Alabi announced the adjustment during a familiarisation visit to the campus.
Yahaya stated that the name change was necessary in order to broaden the scope of the institution’s courses and improve the overall goal for the benefit of the entire state’s population.
“The Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the overall quality of education in the state, as well as CAILMS’s standing as a degree-granting institution.”
“As a result, he pledged to present the request for the sum of N26 million required for the completion of the college’s accreditation of degree courses without further delay.”
Prof. Badmas Yusuf, Chairman of the Institution’s Governing Council, has requested that Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq aid the college with physical structures and funds.
Yusuf stated that the funds would be utilised to fulfil college accreditation standards for the six degree programmes affiliated with the University of Ilorin.
He went on to say that the college, which was created by the state government in 1992, aims to provide solutions to middle-level personnel difficulties and to open additional doors to tertiary education.
According to him, this is especially true for students who want to study Arabic, Islamic Legal System, and other social science courses as part of efforts to meet indigenous peoples’ aspirations.
The Chairman advised the state government to prioritise the construction of an intra-road network and additional infrastructure development in order for the college to achieve greater success.
He thanked the commissioner for his visit, expecting that it will result in further beneficial changes in the college’s history.
Dr. Olokoba Ayinla, College Provost, complimented the current administration for not abandoning the school since taking office in 2019 and called for additional development projects.
